I am Sally Barker, a qualified Sports Massage Practitioner and Biomechanics Trainer and the founder of SB Sports Massage.
As well as running my private practice, I do some work at the English Institute of Sport (EIS) in Manchester where I provide massage to elite athletes, able-bodied and those with disability, who compete for GB Cycling, British Swimming, England Squash and British Taekwondo. I have provided massage support to world class squash players at the British Open in 2010 and have worked with England Netball on their 2011 Test Series tour against New Zealand.
I have worked with England Women's Rugby League Team as their Sports Masseur during the 2009/2010 season and toured France with the squad in July 2009. I have also supported the New Zealand Men's Rugby League squad with massage during their 2009 Four Nations Tours in 2009 and 2011.
With a childhood passion for all sports, I decided to study sport and graduated in 1995 with a BSc(Hons) degree in Sports Science & Administration. SB Sports Massage was launched over 10 years later so what have I been doing since graduating? In 1995 the majority of jobs available in sport were in leisure centre management or teaching, neither of which I wanted to pursue, so my job searches become more generic. I landed a job at Reebok UK selling sports clothing and footwear and this was the start of a successful career in sales and marketing. In an attempt to break away from the corporate lifestyle, I decided I wanted to go back to my roots and work in sport. I therefore qualified with a UCAPD Advanced Diploma in Sports Massage and specialised in biomechanics, to qualify as a Biomechanics Trainer, with a plan to launch my own business, and here I am!
I am a keen triathlete and compete regularly. I completed my first ½ Ironman in 2011 and am training towards Ironman Austria in July 2012.
